FEFAC is the European umbrella organisation for 21 national compound feed manufacturing associations, with observer/associate membership from Switzerland, Turkey and Norway. It was founded in 1959 and holds observer membership in FAO/Codex Alimentarius.

The EU compound feed manufacturers produce 145 Mio t of compound feed annually in app. 4000 feed plants, which corresponds to app. 30% of the total feed supply to farm animals of an estimated 460 Mio t. FEFAC fully supports the 9 principles of the production of responsible soy as agreed at the RTRS meeting in Asuncion in August/September 2006.

FEFAC has produced an EU guide for the manufacturing of compound feed and premixes, which was assessed and accepted by the European Commission. Several national member associations have implemented national feed safety schemes based on the EFMC, which have been successfully benchmarked by EurepGAP.

FEFAC cooperates with EISA, the European Initiative for Sustainable Development in Agriculture. FEFAC is also member of the International Feed Industry Federation, which dealt with sustainable feed production as its major conference theme during its 2nd Global Feed & Food Congress on 15 – 19 April 2007 in Sao Paolo.
