Since our foundation as a business, we have adopted the idea of working for continuous improvement and the permanent search for sustainability in our system. People and community development is also a priority for Tecnocampo.
In the implementation of the Quality Management System we saw the chance for making a qualitative leap and for meeting our commitments. The possibility of systematizing the Continuous Improvement Process for leveraging improvement throughout the organization encouraged us to take on the challenge of certifying. Giving evidence of our commitment with the sustainability system through certification was another important reason when initiating the process. The possibility of obtaining a differentiated product and the access to other markets has also encouraged us to apply for certification.
The first key element for starting off successfully towards certification was the Management commitment. This permeated the rest of the organization and led to developing our business Vision, as a guidance for driving the necessary actions towards our goals.
Then, it was important to allocate resources to this goal and to set up it as a priority for developing the system. We acknowledged that we were making an investment for our internal improvement, with higher subsequent efficiency in production, as well as for improving our relations with the community because it allowed us to communicate more and better with the society we have an impact on with our crop production.
We recorded productive processes and defined indicators that enabled us to identify opportunities for improvement. In these procedures, we integrated agronomic technical know-how with management and good production practices, as proposed by the RTRS standard.
Finally, we were certified, with the commitment of furthering the continuous improvement process, both internally and externally.
Benefits of the RTRS Certification
The benefits identified in our company are manifold. The system became a driver for the development of the company workforce, and of third-party contractors. Besides, a higher level of commitment with the company was developed through multiple training sessions.
With the improvement in information management, many improvement opportunities were identified, which had not been visible until then, due to the absence of the necessary indicators for observing them.
We attained improvement in the way we shared knowledge and interacted in the work team, thus strengthening our internal relations.
We are moving towards a change in our work culture within the company, where the idea of a “continuous improvement system” keeps changing, and this is seen in the way we do things.
We attained recognition from our customers and from the community where we develop and increase our relations.
Other relevant information
Tecnocampo is a company entirely devoted to agri-livestock activities. Our activities go back to 1992, when we started off as a service-oriented business, mainly devoted to sowing and spraying. Since then, we have been expanding the offer of such services as well as performing our own agricultural activities.
At present, we have several business units, besides our production area, specialized in trading of pesticides, seeds and fertilizers; storage and trading of grain; supply of high-precision agricultural equipment and sales of sprinklers.
The Company HQs are located in Monte Cristo, besides three branches in Pilar, Villa Dolores and Luque. We have a team of 60 highly committed employees, in charge of our everyday management.
In our region, we were pioneers in the implementation of zero tillage, widely spreading this practice, with very satisfactory results in soil and water conservation. Since our foundation, we have been members of Aapresid (Asociación Argentina de Productores de Siembra Directa), and have been actively engaged in it, being the founders of Regional Aapresid in Montecristo.
Soy bean, corn and wheat, bean and chick pea production is entirely performed according to the Zero Tillage system. This covers more than 50 farms, totalling 20,500 hectares, approximately 5% on our own farms, and the rest, land being rented, in the Centre-North area of the province of Córdoba (55%), Centre-East of Córdoba (35%), and South of Córdoba-North of La Pampa(10%).
We have implemented a steady continuous improvement process, based on Best Agricultural Practices, such as non-removal of soil, crop rotation, balanced nutrition, Integrated Pest Management, and responsible use of pesticides. All this under Protocol AC of Aapresid’s Certified Agriculture, being the fourth national producers in being certified, in 2010. Subsequently, we have recertified on an annual basis and we have expanded our certification to other farms.
After this, we started implementing the RTRS Standard, a European standard for Responsible Soy production, based on 5 Principles: Legal Compliance and Adequate Business Practices, Responsible Labour Conditions, Responsible Community Relations, Environmental Responsibility and Adequate Agricultural Practices.
At present, more than half of our fields are under the RTRS Standard Certification, and 13% of our fields are certified under the AC Standard (Agricultura Certificada) and RTRS.
Implementing Quality Management systems has enabled us not only to attain a more efficient and standardized management of production processes, but also to buy in new contractors into the continuous improvement process, resulting in a positive impact both in the way they work and in company relationships. It has also helped us show society that we are producing in a sustainable way, according to objective and audited indicators.
Since our beginning, we have developed and spread knowledge, sharing our experience with the community, so as to foster the development of sustainable production systems. And we have managed to build strong relations with public and private institutions, inside and outside the agri-livestock industry.
We have organized many Outreach Meetings, Field Visits, Presentations in Conferences, and Internships. We have been engaged in University-related projects. We have been actively engaged with INTA (Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria) in different areas such as Precision Agriculture, Irrigation, Crop Eco-Physiology and Weed Management, among other.
In striving for a greater engagement with different social players, we have cooperated with diverse institutions for social welfare. We have participated in managing and funding different programs from diverse Foundations. We offer financial support to different associations, institutions, clubs, etc. with the aim to encourage work and development in the area where we are located.
After more than 20 years, we are proud of continuing working as we have always done towards our initial objective, as expressed in our Mission Statement: “Developing, applying and offering innovative technological solutions towards a sustainable growth in the agri-livestock industry, contributing with the overall development of all the persons related to the business”.
