| Certification of Biofuels for Chain of Custody |

The European Commission (EC) established a board that regulates the exports of raw materials for biofuels (such as soy) to Europe: the European Renewable Energies Directive (EU-RED). Raw materials exported to Europe have to comply with a series of minimum regulations in order to be considered sustainable. These minimum requirements are related to the demands on changes in the use of land, GEI calculations and Chain of Custody. The RTRS annex on biofuels includes all the requirements of the board, and it will be optional for those farmers who produce soy for biofuels and want to export it to the European Union. Producers will be able to export certified soy as raw material for the production of biofuels to any member state of the European Union. Moreover, in the document “RTRS EU RED Compliance Requirements for the Supply Chain,” RTRS establishes the requirements for the participants in the supply chain who want to introduce soy, soy derivatives, and soy products in the biofuels market of the UE, and make declarations.
