International Technical Group Print E-mail

The RTRS Principles and Criteria (P&C) have gone through three rounds of public consultations and a field testing period. To revise the Principles and Criteria based on the comments received from the field trial and stakeholders, RTRS set up a multi-stakeholder technical group with a high-level technical experience on the topics covered by the Principles and Criteria.

Objectives

  • To review comments on the RTRS Principles Criteria for  Responsible Soy Production (Field Trial Version) received from the field trials, stakeholders and national processes
  • To use this information to modify and finalize the RTRS Principles, Criteria, Indicators and guidelines.
  • To include in their modifications the adaptation of the RTRS standard for the use of small-holders.

Commitment

  • All ITG members must support the mission and vision of RTRS and ITG Group members are expected to actively participate in the process and work to achieve the group’s objective, rather than any personal or organizational agendas.
  • ITG members will be expected to accept and commit to working collaboratively toward fulfilment of the goals of the development group. (See Terms of Reference for ITG participants for further information on the time commitment, and tasks to be undertaken).
  • ITG members must attend the face-to-face meeting of the ITG, unless prevented from doing so by force majeure.
  • ITG members must commit to participating in 2-3 telephone conferences during the process (March to April).
  • The ITG is scheduled to deliver its final result in April 2010.

Membership

Members will represent a high level technical expertise covering soy production, environmental protection and social issues. A balance will also be sought of geographical areas, and experience with different sizes and types of soy production models.

.

The group will consist of 12-15 people where each of the 3 RTRS membership constituencies (Civil Society, Industry/Trade/Finance and Producers) will be represented. Within Civil Society representation we will seek to obtain participation from individuals with expertise on both environmental and on social issues related to soy production.
